Witchy Wisdom

Season Of The Witch

It has to be said that I have always been comfortable with referring to myself as a pagan and a witch. Obviously there have been times when I have “kept silent” on my true nature, much as I have about my sexuality. In my experience I have always known when and where I should say nothing. Attracting dangerous attention is frankly foolish.

But I am proud of who I am and my heritage. As witches it is time we reclaimed who we are and use our wisdom to know when to keep silent. But also not to hide either.

Are you at ease with who you are?

Below is an interesting article on this very subject…

Pagan Celebrations

Samhain Ancestor Rite for Families with Children

It can be very difficult, as a pagan parent, finding a suitable ritual for the whole family and Samhain is especially a beautiful  celebration because we are remembering our ancestors and of course loved ones who have returned to Summerlands or crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

So I thought it would be nice to share this article by Patti Wigington. I hope iy inspires you for this years Samhain celebrations.

If you’re raising kids in a Pagan tradition, it can sometimes be hard to find rituals and ceremonies that are both age appropriate and celebrate the aspects of the particular Sabbat. Factor in that small children tend to have a shorter attention span, and the days of standing in a circle for an hour watching someone chant are pretty much out of reach. That said, there are plenty of ways you can celebrate the different Sabbats with your children.

This ritual is designed to celebrate Samhain with younger kids. Obviously, if your children are older, or you have younger kids who are very focused and mature, you may not need a “kids ritual.” However, for those of you that do, this is a rite you can complete, from start to finish, in about twenty minutes. Also, keep in mind that you are the best judge of what your child is ready for. If he wants to paint his face, bang a drum and chant, let him do so – but if he’d rather participate silently, that’s okay too.

Listen, Attend…Re Blog

Though not directly to do with witchcraft or paganism, we are about communication. With ourselves, coven member’s, nature, the gods. How ever you see this, this short blog makes for an interesting read!

Our work, our relationships, and our lives succeed or fail one conversation at a time. While no single conversation is guaranteed to transform a company, a relationship, or a life, any single conversation can. Speak and listen as if this is the most important conversation you will ever have with this person. It could be. Participate as if it matters. It does.

– Susan Scott

We spend much of our lives in conversation. We converse with our partners, our children, our parents, our workmates, our neighbors, everyone around us. How well we attend to the other person is often another story. We are often chatting while doing something else. Anything else. Driving. Watching TV. Making dinner. Texting. Listening to music. Watching for our stop on a bus or train.

People make a big deal out of young people (in particular) texting or being on social media rather than communicating face to face. In truth, some of those texts or social media conversations are very intense. The participants are attending closely to what the other is saying. Some of those conversations are skimmed and content or context missed. But that’s true in face to face conversations as well. We’re alive inside our own personal thoughts, actions, reactions, but not necessarily to what the other is communicating.

Each conversation we have with each person who is in our lives is important, significant in its own unique way. Conversations are about ebb and flow, the back and forth give-and-take of interactions. When we are distracted or focused on something other than the person with whom we are communicating, we miss cues to the deeper message behind their words.

We all want to feel heard, to be heard, to have another respond to us as though we are, in the moment, the most important person in the world. In truth, in those moments of deepest communication, we are that important. In order to receive that focus from another, we must be willing to give it. We must be willing to slow our pace. We must be willing to stop our attempt to ‘multitask’ and attend to another person. Listen. Attend. It’s important.

How many times have you walked away from a conversation with no recall of its content? or its context? What has distracted you during your most recent conversation with another person? and the one before that? When was the last time you felt, thought or believed that another person was not paying attention while you were speaking to them? How did you feel? What can you do to keep your attention in your next conversation?

It’s Not The Tools…

This is absolutley true. Doesn’t matter how pretty your athame is. Or how much you spend on all your knick knacks…it’s  YOU who has the power to make the spell work.  Your intent is everything.

This is why you shouldn’t do magick when your heart is filled with negative feelings or if you are  unwell don’t do spellcrafting. I have always said there is no such thing as white or black magick, only grey. Every spell, good or bad, has the potential to switch and become the opposite if the casters intent wills it, even if it isn’t intended.

So before you start take an emotional check on how you are feeling inside!

If you would like a reading then by all means message me and I will give you details about my readings.

Now to the reading…

Cards Used: Green Witch Tarot by Ann Moura, Botanical Inspirations and Woman’s Runes (to learn more these beautiful runes visit @brigidsgrove http://www.brigidsgrove.com)

We are now approaching the celtic pagans new year, Samhain. It is the final harvest and a time we remember our ancestors and loved ones past. A time when the veil is at it thinnest between our two worlds.

And because it is our new year it is when we say good bye to the old and welcome the new. A time if change and new beginnings as we see with the Daffodil of Rebirth & New Beginnings.

This is a time of joy when we can think of the path we walk and remember to be confident in our choices and have faith, which I see in the Rune of Laughter and the Rune of Faith. This path is one of new skills. Putting them to good use and making a living from these skills. It want ne a big living to start with. But I do see happiness and confidence.

An ability to take what you have and work with it in your favour, creating a happy home and a happy you. You enjoy what you do and everything will pan out as long as you keep faith in you and what you can do; which I see in the Two of Pentacles and the Ace of Pentacle. Balance, new skills and happiness.

This is all reflected in both the Rune of Protection and The Star. Both cards showing balance in our lives and things going well. With the rune it also shows you are protective of what you have. Of this life you so love, as you should be. Enjoy!
